The author tells the story of how famous novelist Ayako Mirua, who wrote Freezing Point and Shiokari Pass, became a Christian. Ayako was a school teacher during WWII and taught the required curriculum teaching willingness to die for the country and the emperor. After defeat she knew what she had believed was a lie and she wondered whether she could believe in anything again. When she contracted spinal tuberculosis and suffered, she met a fellow patient who radiated love. He was a Christian through him she met Christ. She read the Bible where Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever who believes in me, even though he dies, will live.” She found that even in suffering God loves us and is with us.
